What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!

Just kidding, nothing bad to report!

sunny 17 °C

Sunday dawned sunny...and slightly warm....well, certainly better than Saturday. I didn't require the amount of clothes that were required the day before. Left early for the races as did 5000 or 10000 other people. Actually everything was very well organized with the transportation and I have nothing bad to say about how they handled all the people to and from and at NASCAR at the Las Vegas Speedway. I commend everyone who had a hand in making the event very smooth. And John's favorite even had a 5th place finish so all was great. No big wrecks and very few restarts so the race went pretty fast.

We didn't get to see the great hockey game but the announcer did announce when Canada was up 1-0 and once again at 2-2 and then..............nothing! By his silence, we knew who had won but it was confirmed when we talked to some fellow Canadians! Sounds like it was pretty exciting and as Dean taped it for us, John will be able to watch it when we get home and NASCAR too.

Last night took another walk down the strip and hopped into the City Center (the new section which is half finished). Word on the street is that the condo unit is on hold as they need additional monies to finish and there are also many caveats on it so no one wants to touch it!! Guess the Arab money is tight too! What a futuristic place, all shiny and big and shiny and expensive .... so reminded me of the buildings that they built in Dubai!

Today we took our first ever helicopter ride and went out to the Grand Canyon...I'm not sure what was better-seeing the Hoover Dam from the air, the Grand Canyon or the helicopter ride and the pilot. Enjoyed the views of the Dam and the Grand Canyon but the helicopter ride was definitely the highlight, I do believe. In the following pictures take note of the hole picture, the pilot aimed for the wall of the canyon and then we flew through the hole!!! Quite exciting!

Tomorrow we're starting the homeward journey, it's been a blast and only wish that we could bring more of this warmth back with us.

We would once again like to thank our friends, Duane and Linda and Jim and Myrna for making our Yuma stay very enjoyable and thanks for your great hospitality.

Better late than not at all!

16 °C

Yesterday I did a bit of laying around and not much of anything and let John go out to the Speedway and check it out on his own....sorta like women shopping right?? Well, I sent the camera with him and look at the pics he comes back with

Last evening, we headed over to MGM for John to watch the Canada hockey game...when in the states, you cannot get Canadian hockey and CTV has blocked all the Olympic internet feeds and CNBC (American channel) is a cable station which most hotel TV's don't carry. Rather than watch hockey, I tried to double my money...didn't happen but did have fun trying!

Today dawned overcast with a forecast for rain between 10 a.m and continuing! Well the weatherman was nearly all too accurate...had a rain shower at the speedway about 12 and delayed the start of the race while the cleaning crew dried the track for about 1.5 hours. After I found a rain poncho (5.00 worth about 1.00), it decided to stop raining but the plastic did help to keep the legs warm anyhow. Had sun for about 15 minutes later then about an hour later, the sky again threatened to drown us. With such a cold wind blowing and having seen 2 crashes (nothing too much), we decided to pack it in like thousands of others did too. We had purchased shuttle tickets to the Speedway and after the shuttles experiencing so many delays in traffic yesterday, today they had made arrangements for the shuttles and taxis to travel through the Nellis Air Force base. That was wonderful as the ride out there without any delays is about 35 minutes anyhow! Arrived back to our room cold and hungry.

We rented headphones to listen to the race and block out some noise and good thing we did as there is no way you would have heard the announcer without the headphones. The race today was busy but I can't imagine what the crowd will be like tomorrow as I heard it is a sellout. Today's race was the up and coming racers where tomorrow is the seasoned competitors.

But I think I got some great pics today...forecast for tomorrow is sunny, can't wait although I have no expectations of much more heat.

I just heard on the TV coverage that those motorhomes on the bank have been nicnamed "Snob Hill". Can't imagine how much they have to pay to park there.

NASCAR in Vegas......John is like a little kid waiting for Christmas! We drove out to the LV Speedway (with a little help from GPS) today to pick up our tickets and John had to take a little walk around. Not too much set up but you could see the excitement in him rising. It was cute! Tickets in hand, shuttle tickets bought, a short walk over to the Tropicana and away he is going tomorrow to watch some qualifying runs. We also have pit passes so we are not going to miss a thing. I will stay behind and let him go and check out stuff tomorrow as Saturday and Sunday should be enough excitement for me...lol! Actually, I am quite looking forward to it.

Tonight while standing out front of MGM awaiting the Parade of the Car Haulers (the semi's with all the sponsorship advertising), we stood beside a couple from Utah who have attended for 5 or 6 years and they told us lots of neat stuff. Great couple with lots of NASCAR knowledge! Las Vegas Boulevard was closed down for the parade of the semis (Jerry would've loved it and Alison....there were lots of Peterbilts) all nice and shiny and tooting their horns.

Got here around 3 yesterday and checked in to the hotel that I had prebooked....off the strip but only 2 short blocks behind the MGM back entrance. We were totally astonished, it is a 1 bedroom suite with an ensuite bathroom, walk in closet, full kitchen with newer appliances....even a dishwasher with soap, full array of kitchen dishes, pots and tools, blender and even a mixer (lol). I had read good reviews on it and it is all true...no casino to walk through all the time, not having to sit on the bed to watch TV (2 tvs..one in bedroom too), free wifi, continental breakfast, heated pool and hot-tub, exercise room (still need to use that :-D In case you are ever interested, the name of the complex is Desert Rose and the rates are fantastic too. Met up with sister in law last night and had supper and went to Fremont Street to enjoy the lights. Had a good visit and then she was off home today. She always has great stories and she didn't disappoint again! She managed to scare the bejesus out of her friends who thought something had happened to her when all that really happened was that they had their meeting times mixed up. Helen thought that her friends had left her so on her way she went...shopping, eating and all the good stuff. By the time that she finally showed up, her poor friends were in a frenzy....it wasn't really funny but it was so typical of Helen to look after herself!!!

Shopped the outlet mall today and bought some great clothes. So many stores, so little time (or room to take home), so exhausting - for John that is!

Till next time.....btw, we have graduated from shorts to pants..........boohoo, damn rain storm coming through on Saturday has brought the temperatures down!!! And of course, we didn't pack the raincoats.

Viva Las Vegas!

sunny 20 °C

Golf Addicts we are........lol! Did another 18 holes today at Barrancas. That is such a great course! Except now, John is suffering from either...exhaustion or a lack of food in his tummy. He had such a headache when we were done that he ended up feeling quite sick. Hopefully now that he has some ibuprofen, some food, some water and now some sleep, he will feel fine soon. I contribute it to lack of food! He's used to eating 3 meals and today was a quite a bit lighter than that and then we didn't get done golf till 6:30 and didn't get to eat till 8.

Tomorrow is off to Vegas for NASCAR on the weekend and he is so looking forward to that, I am sure he will make himself better just for that! We will also meet up with his sister, Helen for a evening together as she is on a Vegas swing with her girlfriends from Beaumont. Should be fun!

Got the glasses and they feel great..John got some new earplugs and he is very impressed with them also. Getting out of Mexico this time was not as easy as last week....last week they was only about 10 people ahead of us waiting to cross the customs out and this time we must have been behind 100 people but it only took a 1/2 hour for the line to get through. I was going to post a picture that I took but I see that I left the camera in my golf bag out in the car and I am too lazy to go get it in the dark. We met up with Duane and Linda at the Q Casino and donated there, nice casino but it's always a donation!

We are ready to move on, we have had a great time and some great weather, meet some great people but it's time to see something new and make our slow move on up north. I will try and bring some warm weather up as we go....lol.

Talk to ya all from Vegas!

Another lazy, sunny day. Washed the car and enjoyed some pool time, read a book and generally did nothing. What a life!
The car wash was super busy and most of it was all hand done except for the wash. Inside vacuum and wipe, windows and hand dry...all for $20. And this is a regular business not a fundraiser like in Canada. Amazing!

Had a bunch of bikers stay at our motel last night. It seemed pretty weird to see all these Harleys and then watch the riders slowly and painfully get off, take off their helmets to see big gut 70 year old men and grey haired ladies appear. Different strokes for different folks I guess!

Off to check out some flea markets today.
